Bio-Gel Water Efficiency Management

Bio-Gel is a carbohydrate -based hydrogel created to boost agricultural productivity by improving soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients. This innovative solution tackles critical challenges in modern farming, such as water scarcity and efficient nutrient management. Bio-Gel absorbs and holds water, slowly releasing it to crops, which enhances water-use efficiency. Beyond water retention, Bio-Gel helps retain vital nutrients, preventing their loss through leaching and fostering the formation of soil organic matter. This promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms, enhancing soil structure, fertility, and nutrient cycling for long-term soil health.

Midwestern BioAg’s Sales Consultant, Karl Harpstead shares his insights on the above image, “One jar has Bio-Gel at 1#/5gal (tablespoon in a quart) and the other has water. Right away the soil fluffed up in Bio-Gel. I had a customer, reach into each jar to feel the difference and imagine their own soils and seed inside the jar, as it dries up after heavy rain. Bio-Gel soil was soft, and water was tighter like the bottom of a puddle. This picture is from the farmer, after a week in his shop. He mentioned that open spaces were appearing. I explained that Bio-Gel is very biologically active and makes gases. Nothing in water showed up in the jar without Bio-Gel.”

Bio-Gel is proven to be an effective source of both water efficiency management and nutrient management.  Bio-Gel has a high water-holding capacity. When applied to the soil, water is able to be retained, helping to improve overall soil structure. Which additionally helps enhance nutrient retention, allowing nutrients to be available to the plants when they need them, reducing the risk of nutrient loss through leaching or runoff.
