Bio-Gel® Impacts as a Dry Fertilizer Coating

Vegetative stages in Alfalfa are where most of the growth of the plant occurs. Once the crown of the plant has been established, regrowth is possible from the plant. Where our measurements were taken on this field, the alfalfa was in vegetative stage 2, or when the stems are at least 12” and the buds can start to be felt on the plant but have not yet taken form.

Left control (stand density) , right treatment (Bio-Gel).

As shown above, the alfalfa stand treated with dry fertilizer coated in Bio-Gel dry granular (right), has more vigor and density when compared to the control which did not receive the Bio-Gel treatment. Bio-Gel helps retain soil moisture after each precipitation event which is important in rain fed agricultural systems. In this system, volumetric soil moisture content increased 6% in the treatment zone compared to the control. Increasing soil moisture content also enhances the crops resistance to heat stress as well as maintaining fertilizer availability throughout the growing season. Treating dry fertilizer with Bio-Gel technology allows for stands that yield more tons per acre than those left untreated maximizing the ROI of the dry fertilizer and gaining production on ever acre.

Bio-Gel dry granular fertilizer still retains the same effects of spayed application, as demonstrated by these measurements taken this spring. While the temperature change is only a 1% drop, the 6% increase in volumetric water content can mean big outcomes in terms of yield. More water retained means less wasted nutrients, more nutrient availability, and more growth. An illustration of the commitment to our goal of better yields through better soil.

Boost performance for every granule. Apply Bio-Gel as a dry fertilizer costing to enhance nutrient availability and improve soil conditions – perfect for in-season alfalfa applications and side-dress fertilizer passes.

Building soil productivity with TerraNu® fertilizers can reduce nitrogen fertilizer demands by 20% or more

“TerraNu allows for more efficient recovery of nutrients and improved soil health, which are crucial with historically high input prices,” say Midwestern BioAg’s Director of Agronomy, Chris Kniffen. “For decades, carbon management has been a core part of Midwestern BioAg’s approach, enabling a 20%+ reduction in nitrogen applications for corn vs conventional practices. With TerraNu, we can enable the same approach for farmers across the country.”
